Imagine: Gringos Sing Mexico’s National Anthem

If you have never heard of Pangea Day you’re in for a weird real treat: As part of the organization’s“Imagine” anthem series, you can see a bunch of mostly white, well-dressed -and presumably non-Hispanic- Americans singing Mexico’s National Anthem somewhere along the U.S.-Mexican border, while “real” Mexicans pass by them wearing jorongos and looking kind of hopeless, until a fence magically comes down.

A choir from the USA sings the Mexican anthem along the fence that divides the U.S. from Mexico

Oh, dear! I think I’ll go puke… or at least take a bite of my Margarita-flavored chocolate bar.

  1. I totally agree with you. This is the most unproductive video contribution that does more damage to the purpose of Pangea rather than promote it. It is ironic that it was done by one of Pangea’s “leading film-makers”. For those who have not yet viewed it ,see the video and the trend of postings it has generated and you will know what I mean.

  2. I hate to be so cynical, but this sucks. The fence magically comes down at the end of the song. Geesh! Just go look once again at the racist comments on the site and you will realize that it’s going to take a whole lot more than a choir to tear down the wall and open the gates.
“Leading film-makers are seeking to change the way we think about other countries.” Please.
I wonder how much the leading film-maker was paid to come up with this un-meeting of two cultures in the desert?

  3. It is sad the only negative comments of these videos are those between the USA and Mexico. It is clear how US/Mexico relations are not about political, social, or economic differences but rather sheer ignorance and racism.

Although this video could have been made without a literal “wall coming down” the message is to image a world with no boundaries & borders, without limitations (and not physical or political walls) but on one’s self mentally, spiritually, and having an open mind to a world of culture and diversity not just enclosed to one’s “little world of thoughts.”

But who am i kidding, lets get some radicals on here again to boycott pangea day!!! Kick ’em messican out!!!jajajaja

  4. A “world without borders” cannot be portrayed using people of one color singing the national anthem of other country, no matter how CUTE you make it look. Flags, borders, anthems… all have the same goal: divide people and countries!! Crazy, crazy, crazy
