Mexico Advances to World Cup’s Next Round Thanks to South Korea. Mexico Totally ❤️s South Korea

A new flag is born

This is what happened. On Wednesday morning, Sweden beat Mexico 3-0, but Mexico managed to advance to the next round of the 2018 World Cup because Germany was eliminated after falling 2-0 to South Korea on the same day.

This, of course, made it for a massive Mexican-Korean party worldwide that I’m sure will last all day long –and probably will go on for the long weekend and until the next Mexico game (Monday, July 2.)

As soon as the news of the German defeat broke, Mexicans in the stadium started to chant and hug each other even when their team was losing 3-0 to Sweden and was clear it will never recover. Chilangos in Mexico City, meanwhile, took to the streets and marched all the way to the South Korean embassy to thank Koreans for “their service” in the most awesome way; singing the popular Cielito Lindo, bringing gifts to the Korean Ambassador and lifting random Koreans in arms and cheering them on. ¡Hermano, coreano, ya eres mexicano!

Similar scenes were recorded everywhere, from New York to Moscow and from Los Angeles to Seoul.

There’s a ton happening right now, but CLICK ON the following slideshow to see only a few of the best memes regarding our new hermanos coreanos.

Trump Meets Peña Nieto in Germany. A Tragicomedy Ensues

It was brief –and painful.

U.S. President Donald Trump and Enrique Peña Nieto on Friday had their first face-to-face meeting since Trump took office, and while the encounter lasted only a few minutes, it was enough for El Trumpo to assert that he’ll “absolutely” have Mexico pay for his famous wall.

Fortunately for this blogger — and the world at large — Mexican tuiteros came through to spice up the otherwise tragic encounter.

Here are only a few of my favorite Twitter moments of this year’s G-20 meeting. Be sure to come back, as I’m going to be updating this post throughout this hilarious/tragic day.

Mexico Creates ‘Tequila Cloud’ to Attract German Tourists. Yep.

This cloud rains tequila, so that more Germans can visit Mexico (or something)

I’m way too busy this week with so-called “real work,” but I just needed to let everybody know that the Mexican government has launched a new tourism campaign that involves a cloud that rains not water but … tequila.

Sí, señor. The campaign — crafted by Lapiz and first demonstrated at a special art exhibit in Berlin — used “ultrasonic humidifiers to vibrate tequila at a frequency that actually turned it into visible mist.” This mist is then condensed into liquid form, which falls as raindrops and basically means you can get your caballito ready, put it under the cloud and drink like there is no mañana. ¡Prost!

The reason behind all this, says the Mexican government, is simple: To tempt rain-soaked Germans to visit sunny Mexico in the dead of winter.

Go figure.

McDonald’s German Mariachi Will Steal Your ‘Herz’ and Make you ‘Lieben’ Chili con Carne

germanchili

Turns out the Germans are not only fond of Mexican food, but they get all festive and dress up in mariachi costumes and all to celebrate a good ‘chili con carne,’ which is actually not a Mexican dish, but who cares? Any excuse is good to dance around the Straßen waving Mexican flag and all.
