CBS Changes Name of Upcoming Latino Show ‘Cause Typing an Upside Exclamation Point is a Bitch

If Fox News Latino my sources are right, CBS’ upcoming “Latino-themed sitcom” starring Rob Schneider will be changing its name to Rob! from the previous ¡Rob! because people at CBS just found it too hard to type an upside exclamation point every time they wanted to promote the damn thing.

Scheduled to premiere Jan 12, Rob! centers around a gringo character named Rob (duh) who marries a Mexican, and gets “immersed” in the whole Mexican family experience (all this from a gringo point of view, of course.)

Rob! features some Latino luminaries, including Eugenio Derbez and Cheech Marin, which I can anticipate will be doing the funny accent thing and plenty bean-related jokes for our viewing pleasure.

I cannot wait for this thing show to start, as it promises to be great fodder for Mi blog es tu blog. You don’t believe me? ¡Just watch!

Mitt Romney Cares for Hispanic Voters. Visits Conchita Foods to Prove It

Only one thing is more pathetic than a politician campaigning for votes: A Republican politician courting U.S. Hispanic voters.

Watch Romey as he visits South Florida’s Conchita Foods to receive the endorsement of three Cuban-American GOP heavyweights (Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Mario Diaz-Balart and his brother Lincoln Diaz-Balart).

The four amigos might not be in agreement on hot-topic issues like immigration, but I’m sure they all agree Conchita Foods offers some delicious frijoles negros and dry lentejas.

Deeelish!

OMG, You Guys! The Strauss-Kahn-Diallo Saga Comes to Telemundo… Well, Not Really

I though this was going to be yet another bleak week, but then I remembered Telemundo’s Una Maid en Manhattan premieres tonight (8:00 PM/ET) on the Telemundo channel.

In a nutshell, this is the story of a terribly-good-looking hotel maid (Litzy) who moves to the U.S. with her little son, gets a job at a swanky hotel and meets a dashing hunk (Eugenio Siller) which confuses her for one of the rich hotel guests… because, as we all know not all maids look like Nafissatou Diallo, nor all hotel guests are as disgusting and horny as Dominique Strauss-Kahn.

This is a maid-to-order feel good story and very likely great fodder for Mi blog es tu blog.

So stay tuned. I will keep you people posted on this impossibly-realistic love story.

Hispanic marketing according to Jencarlos Canela

There is nothing more refreshing than spending some time with a 23-year-old U.S.-born Latino and hear his take on Hispanic media and marketing… Oh, and if such a 23-year-old is terribly good looking, well, all the better.

On Tuesday, I was lucky to moderate a panel featuring Mr. Canela and Post Foods senior director of marketing Tony Shurman.

The session focused on a Post Foods’ Hispanic marketing promotion featuring Mr. Canela as the spokesperson of Honey Bunches of Oats cereal.

When I asked Canela (a star of Telemundo telenovela Más sabe el diablo) about the content on Hispanic television, he simply said it isn’t “quite there yet.”

“Why do telenovelas have to be so… so… so… dramatic?” he asked.

And that was not all. While Shurman informed us the Jencarlos Canela campaign far exceeded the company expectations; the young kid said that was at least half the sales boost was owed to his mother.

“I got home and I was like, ‘Mom, what is this?’ There were cereal boxes all over the place…I asked her, ‘What are you going to do with all these cereal boxes?’

DNC Launches Spanish-language TV Spot. Could Use Some Spanish-language Copy Editing

The Democratic National Committee (NDC) on Friday launched its first Spanish-language TV spot, featuring President Obama and the Democratic Party as the only ones out there who protect the interests of Latino families in the U.S.

So far so good. But while it bluntly attacks the Republicans for slashing Medicare, it also blasts them for supporting the bajadas of the taxes… Bajadas?!!!

This blogger applauds DNC’s efforts and bluntly offers them help with their Spanish copy: Would you guys mind doing a little editing before airing stuff? Digo, yo.

‘Father Albert’ Premieres on Fox… And He Wants you Not to be Fooled by his Outfit

Father Albert (aka El socerdote, ahem, I mean, sacerdote) is back on the television scene, this time as host of Father Albert Show a new show on Fox, which premieres today and promises lots of juicy, scandalous stuff (probably not as juicy and scandalous as his own, but we’ll see.)

I am told the very first episode will revolve around Father Alberto’s own fall from grace, which happened not when he decided to confess his “love” for some woman, but was caught canoodling at the beach with her.

Univision’s Randy Falco Faces Tough Job Ahead

You should always trust this blogger when she tells you someone is onto something.

Not sure you remember this, but Univision’s COO Randy Falco was hard at work May 19th posing for the cameras and showing Univision’s owners he was not only fit for the top job, but could easily hang out with some of the network’s big-breasted most talented people.

Falco today was appointed Univision’s President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Congrats, Randy, now can you go get some Spanish lessons?

Here’s Your Chance to See Jorge Ramos in Tanga! Well, Maybe Not

As soon as I heard the news of Univision launching a summer campaign featuring its entire talent, I grabbed a mojito and a good pair of reading glasses, ready to see for the first time a scantily-clad news anchor…man.

Alas, while there’s plenty of skin shown by the likes of Chiquinquirá Delgado, Patricia Espinoza, Karla Martinez and Bárbara Bermudo, Jorge Ramos appears not only fully-clothed, but wearing a long sleeve shirt, a pair of jeans and shoes. Shoes!

Come on, Univision! Can you for once think about us girls?

P.S. I did notice that Raúl de Molina and Don Francisco also appear fully clothed… and I will ever be grateful for that.

Starz to Launch Hispanic Net, NOT Called ‘Estrellaz’

Turns out everybody now wants a piece of the U.S. Hispanic market. And the latest to join the craze is Starz Entertainment, which today announced the launch of Encore en Español, an all Spanish-language version of its premium Encore movie channel.

According to Multichannel News, which first broke the news, the new net will be called Encore Español and not –as this blogger would have hoped– “Estrellaz”

In any case, the network will launch in August and it is expected to mirror the content on the 33 million- subscriber Encore channel, but with Spanish-language audio.

¡Síganlo los Buenos! Chespirito is on Twitter

I guess it is never too late to start tweeting. Take 82-year-old Roberto Gómez Bolaños (aka Chespirito) who on May 28 sent out a very amusing first tweet ever:

“Hi, I am Chespirito. I am 82 years old and this is the first time I tweet. ¡Síganme los buenos!

Barely a day after that first tweet, Chespirito has already amassed over 206,000 followers, this blogger included of course!

(Not bad for a guy who has been killed several times already by the Twitterati.)

¡Bienvenido, pues!
