CBS Wants you to Think La Palma Is Situated in the Iberian Peninsula LOL

Move over, Latin American Hong Kong!

In yet another example of geographically-challenged TV networks, now comes CBS News placing La Palma in the Iberian Peninsula, in Murcia to be precise.

I am told the network quickly corrected the blunder, but this blogger’s job is to make sure it remains in the cyberspace, like, forever.

Ay, caramba!

Filing under: “Geography is our passion.”

My Office Welcomes Visitors with Mexican Christmas Flowers

Yes. That's a pool table back there...
Nochebuenas at the CBS Interactive offices in NYC. (Yeah, that’s a pool table in the background)

I know you were dying to know that Poinsettias (aka Euphorbia pulcherrima) are none other than the archfamous Mexican — and Central American — Christmas flowers better known as Nochebuenas or flores de pascua, which are not to be confused with these other delicious Nochebuenas.

The best part about Poinsettias?

Their English name derives from Joel Roberts Poinsett, the first United States Minister to Mexico, who introduced the plant into the United States in 1825.

Now you know.

Let’s drink to Joel Roberts Poinsett.

¡Salud!

CBS Changes Name of Upcoming Latino Show ‘Cause Typing an Upside Exclamation Point is a Bitch

If Fox News Latino my sources are right, CBS’ upcoming “Latino-themed sitcom” starring Rob Schneider will be changing its name to Rob! from the previous ¡Rob! because people at CBS just found it too hard to type an upside exclamation point every time they wanted to promote the damn thing.

Scheduled to premiere Jan 12, Rob! centers around a gringo character named Rob (duh) who marries a Mexican, and gets “immersed” in the whole Mexican family experience (all this from a gringo point of view, of course.)

Rob! features some Latino luminaries, including Eugenio Derbez and Cheech Marin, which I can anticipate will be doing the funny accent thing and plenty bean-related jokes for our viewing pleasure.

I cannot wait for this thing show to start, as it promises to be great fodder for Mi blog es tu blog. You don’t believe me? ¡Just watch!

National Latino Media Coalition Thinks ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX Not Diverse. Thank God for Hispanic TV

This week the National Latino Media Coalition (NLMC) scolded the nation’s top broadcast networks for not embracing diversity (i.e. mostly for failing to employ more Latinos in front of and behind the camera.) In a press conference on Tuesday in Los Angeles, Alex Nogales, president & CEO of the NLMC said that:

“This was a terrible year for Latinos at the networks. African Americans and Asian Pacific Americans posted impressive gains in most categories, but when it came to Latinos, the networks failed us. Don’t misunderstand, we don’t want what African Americans and Asian Pacific Americans received, the pie is much larger than that, we only want what we deserve as the largest minority consumer population in the nation.”

Well said, Mr. Nogales! But I wouldn’t hold my breath too long if I were you… Last time I checked, even the main Hispanic networks insisted on drawing their top talent from some sort of Swedish incubator.
