Aeroméxico is offering Americans hefty discounts to travel to Mexico. How hefty? Well, this depends –says Aeroméxico– on said Americans’ percentage of “Mexican heritage,” whatever this means.
The problem? Judging from this new campaign (executed by Ogilvy), not all of these die-hard Americans seem to be thrilled to learn they are, well, part Mexican –even if this means they can fly to Mexicou on the cheap.
OK, I get your rage, but before you go and vow to kill them all, I’d like for all of us to take a moment and realize that both — Mexico and the U.S. — have our share of morons, starting with the ones leading our respective nations, so really, can anyone blame us for being so obtuse?
I get the rage about the spring breakers, really, but before you go all crazy about them, go read this; then remember the 43 of Ayotzinapa; the blatant violations of human rights in Mexico and the dozens of filthy rich politicians who have vanished in thin air…. Then take a deep breath and maybe you’ll understand. We are all fucked, no matter which side of the border we live in.
Shame on us, really. All of us.
*OK, this happened in Cancún, which is arguably not Mexico anymore, but still…
Every now and then I toy with the idea of becoming a U.S. citizen, but as it has been the case, I always end up leaving the project in my special To do, but won’t do list.
Still, I often test myself using apps and online citizenship tests, mostly because they remind me that — should I ever take this thing seriously — it won’t be as hard as I’ve always feared. In fact, it’s one of the most hilarious things I’ve ever come across.
Are you scared of the citizenship test? Fear no more. Here’s what’s in store for you. Relax! have a margarita (or two) and just go follow your [primary school] instincts.
