This London Chef Wants you to Put Pineapple Ketchup on Cornflake-crumbed Tacos

The lockdown resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic has been tough on Thomasina Miers’ children. That is why the co-founder of Wahaca, London’s weirdly-named Mexican eatery, has concocted a recipe for tacos that are… well… sure to please Londoners.

We’re talking about Thomasina’s cornflake-crumb fish tacos with a “tangy tropical ketchup,” which apparently is a mix of pineapple and cayenne pepper. For children you know?

The train wreck recipe includes tossing cabbage, onion and coriander on these things and then sprinkle with sea salt and a bit of lime. Thomasina suggests we eat them at once with a cold beer.

Ok, I’ll do the beer and toss out all the rest. Thanks.

The winter Olympics are here y’all -and while you might think Mexico’s strongest suit is its Olympic ski team, we are also considered to be a strong contender in yet another category: BEST SOMBRERO… at least according to the prestigious BBC.

This London Establishment Sells Bad Mexican Food –and Awful Spanish Grammar

This doesn’t make sense, you know?

The owners of this fine establishment in London would be well advised to take a quick Spanish-language course or –at the very least– brush up on their masculine and feminine nouns.

But I guess they’re busy concocting “food” that they hope will pass as “Mexican” without anybody noticing. Alas, my European, non-Hispanic, non-Mexican correspondent noticed…

At this point, I’m not sure if I’m cringing over their grammar or their “food.”

I Can’t ‘Wrap’ my Head Around the Half Mexican Chicken

What happened to the other half of the Mexican?

Let’s forget for one second that most of the ingredients on this “thing” look everything but Mexican…

What I really need to know is: Is this London food market selling us a chicken that is half Mexican? If so, what’s the other half? British?

Or is this a 100-percent-Mexican chicken that’s being sold in halves? 🤔

Baffling.

British ‘Tortillas’ Feature Pyramids and Sombreros; Claim to Be ‘True Taste of Mexico’

From this blog’s London correspondent (formerly this blog’s West Coast correspondent) come Britain’s “Cool,” gluten-free Hey Ho to Mexico “tortillas,” which is apparently what the Brits call any corn-based produce that comes packaged in a plastic bag featuring pyramids and sombreros.

These are not your regular [fake] tortillas, mind you, these “bring you a true taste of Mexico,” because as everyone knows, there is only one.
