Hulu and Hulu Plus today are premiering East Los High, a Latino-themed drama set in a Los Angeles high-school.

According to press reports, the show’s creator -and director- has promised “no gardeners, no gangs, no maids,” but apparently tons of cute kids confronting each other for the love of their very young lives while wearing prom king and queen costumes.

Watch here and judge for yourselves. Will you be watching?

  1. Too bad it’s shot like if it aired in the 80’s and everyone still acts like they’re in Stand and Deliver Dos. But at least it’s a start so let’s keep it coming.

  2. I will be watching & inviting actual teens and residents of East Los Angeles to respond. As a newcomer to LA and living on the real Eastside – not Echo Park, the responses just based on the trailer have not been great. I think there is a curiosity by young peeps here to see how they will be depicted but really based on the trailer, there may be no maids, but it seems like there are plenty of other stereotypes coded in.
