The Millennial Lotería is Now on Sale –and it’s a Thing of Beauty

It took longer than I most of us wanted, but the awesome Millennial Lotería is finally on sale. It’s not cheap and apparently there won’t be tons of sets available, so you’d better hurry if you want to put your hands on these little wonders.

As creator Mike Alfaro told MiTú in 2017, “he remembered [the lotería cards] from his childhood but was shocked at how outdated they were, so he took the opportunity to create a parody version of the timeless game.”

Florida Pharmacy Sells ‘Hispanic Drugs,’ Because Florida

Drogas hispánicas
Image via @LourdesBFdz on Twitter

This image, which has been doing the rounds on the Internet, couldn’t find a better home than this blog, which has dutifully documented the birth of Hispanic cheese; the deliciously weird tortilla-flavored chocolates; the Mexican Coca-Cola and even a Hispanic lettuce to go with your Hispanic tuna and your Hispanic mayonnaise.

I have several questions about this display, including: Where is the uña de gato?; shouldn’t the sign read “Hispanic drugs” as in several (not one) drugs… Shouldn’t it be “Drogas hispanas” and not “hispánicas”… Oh… and can the creator of this display come forward? I’d like to thank him/her personally.

Thank you for your cooperation.

This Woman Protesting the End of DACA Is My Spirit Animal

Chancla Power on Display

Americans from all walks of life took to the streets Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017 to protest Donald Trump’s cruelest decision to date: To kill DACA, a program implemented by the Obama administration that granted undocumented children protection from deportation as well as permits to be able to work legally in the US.

The decision sparked nationwide protests, including one outside the Trump Tower in the heart of New York City where dozens of protesters were arrested. Among the brave — and most hilarious — protesters was the woman above, who had a clear message for Donald Trump (or rather his Twitter handle.)

Malala Yousafzai Meets Enrique Peña Nieto; Hilarity Ensues

#ItsMalalaNotMaluma

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, I’m sure you are aware that Nobel Prize winner Malala Yousafzai was in Mexico this week as part of a larger “humanitarian” world tour.

On Thursday, while in Mexico, Malala spoke at the Technological Institute of Monterrey in Mexico City and met president Enrique Peña Nieto, who proudly tweeted a picture of the meeting.

Sooner than you can say “infraschorchor,” Mexicans took to Twitter to do what we do best: To mock our fearless leader.

Here are only a few of the tweets that made my Thursday –and still are helping me get through Friday.

IT’S MALUMA NOT MALALA

LET’S SING ALONG

BLAH, BLAH, BLAH… EYEROLL

IS IT CHRISTMAS YET?

OUCH

NYC Farmers Market Joins Nonsensical Trend of Putting an ‘Ñ’ where it Doesn’t Belong

#ItsPoblanoNotPoblaño

Remember that nonsensical trend of putting “eñes” where they don’t belong just to make something look — and sound — more authentic?

Well, it looks like American salsa makers, media giants and Hispanic journalists organizations are not alone in this thing. As it turns out, local farmers markets is New York City are on it as well.

¡Ay carambiña!

Mexican Daily Jumps on the ‘White Supremacy’ Bandwagon, Because Nothing Makes Sense Anymore

Well done, periódico Reforma!

Not Photoshop. Not an Internet meme. This is the actual front page of today’s sports section of Reforma, one of Mexico’s largest daily newspapers. In case you were wondering, the “white supremacy” (in this instance) is that of the Real Madrid after it beat Barcelona 2-0 on Wednesday night. They wear white uniforms, get it? Ha Ha Ha.

Anyway, I believe I don’t need to tell you how timely the above headline is as it comes on the heels of the deadly mass riots organized by white nationalists — and self-described Neo-nazis — in Charlottesville, Virginia this past weekend.

Good job, Reforma… [SIGH]

Move Over, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy;’ Mexico Wants you to See ‘Guardianes de la Galatzia’ Instead

It is becoming increasingly difficult to keep blogging, when Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Stories et al keep beating me to the punch, like, by the second. But there are things that are just so beautiful that they deserve to be immortalized in this venerable, non-for-profit, read-by-nobody blog. And this is one of them.

So there. Enjoy. And repeat after me: “Mexicans: How can anyone not love us?”

Trump’s White House Tweets in what it Thinks is the Spanish Language

¡Sorpresa! The White House’s Spanish Twitter account sucks

It’s been over five months since the tragic day President Donald Trump took over the White House, and yet it seems determined to keep ignoring Spanish speakers. Or at least that’s what one can surmise after reading the tweets coming out of @LaCasaBlanca, the White House’s Spanish twitter account, which is a mix of bad Spanish with even worse Spanglish.

The above annotations (by the editors of The Associated Press) are only a small fraction of the horror that this thing is, not to mention that many tweets were actually sent out in English, because why bother?

The @LaCasaBlanca Twitter handle was restored in February after having disappeared following Trump’s inauguration. The Spanish-language Twitter account that was active during the Obama years has moved to @LaCasaBlanca44 and is currently managed by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA.)
